Settling Into the Season
Fading into Fall
As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, it’s clear that Fall has arrived in New England. The heat wave of late summer has given way to fifty-degree mornings, prompting my dogs to curl up in their beds earlier each evening. The Tall Ship crews are preparing to close shop for the season, and life on the island is slowing down. It’s a time for reflection on the memories of the summer gone by.
One of my favorite memories from my years of teaching Kids Sailing Camps was starting each dinner with a sea shanty. Everyone would join in, even if they didn’t know the words.
This summer, we had a great time sponsoring some music festivals and bringing local musicians to the Tavern and Café. Music really does bring people together, and we loved spending time with everyone who came out to join us.
Sports also has a way of bringing people together. As a big Boston Bruins fan, I was excited to meet defenseman Charlie McAvoy when he visited the Tavern. He’s a laid-back guy who loves his dog and we’re excited to collaborate with him on a line of athleisure wear coming out later this fall. Welcome to our pack, Charlie.
September kicked off our 21st annual Dog Adoption Month! We continue to be overwhelmed by the number of folks who visit our General Stores to meet the adoptable dogs from our partnering shelters. It’s heartwarming to see a dog go to their forever home after one of our events. Don’t forget to check out our Rescue Dog photo contest winner (and all our entries) in this catalog!
We traveled off-island to Maine to photograph our fall catalog and were blown away by the rugged landscape. It's beauty reminded us of our island home and made the perfect backdrop for our newest layers of thermals, flannels, and fleece. They will be put to good use while walking along the wharf this season.
Finally, we want to thank everyone who visited our hometowns this summer. We hope you had a great time and look forward to seeing you again soon. Winter well!
